I have fallen off track on my healthy lifestyle more times than I would like to admit. It is very disappointing to find yourself soo far off from what you are supposed to be doing in order to be healthy and lose weight. Here are a few ways that have helped me to get back on track on my health goals:
Find Out Why: It is worthwhile to find out why you have fallen off track in order to not let it keep on occurring. I tend to be an emotional eater and I tend to want to eat junk food when I am not happy about something and I find it difficult to stop until that issue is solved. If this is the same case with you, I suggest that you take time to attend to whatever is bothering you and try to solve it or accept it if it cannot be solved.
It Is Normal: It is important to understand that it is not going to be a linear journey but there might be ups and downs, at least for most people. It is normal, you just need to get back up and continue until you reach your goal.
Do Not Give Up: It is soo hard to get back to eating well and exercising once I stop but I always tell myself to not give up. I may have eaten way too much and lazed around for too many days but it is still not the end and I can get back up. I may have wasted weeks but I still have the rest of my life to make better decisions when it comes to my health. There is no deadline or cut-off date so it is never too late to improve. You cannot undo what has happened and you cannot take back the time that you have lost. Forgive yourself for your past mistakes and move on.
Learn from Yourself: I love reading my monthly weight loss updates that I post here on my blog and they remind me of how far I have come. They also encourage me to continue because I know how amazing I felt when I was doing well. I love to look at delicious and healthy meals that I have had before and it makes me want to have more of them and to eat well. You do not need to wait for motivation from somewhere or someone else but you need to do what you did before that actually worked.
Plan: I love to take a pen and paper (or my notepad on my phone) and plan out what I am going to do differently in order to get my life back together again. Prepping healthy meals in advance and setting the time aside to exercise is a guaranteed way of success. Nothing good usually happens on its own. It is also important for me to pray about this because I sometimes just do not have the strength to continue but God helps me to do so.
Do Not Seek Perfection: Setting deadlines and targets for myself is helpful so that I know what I am working towards and I can push myself to reach it but it might also be the reason why I give up sometimes. I cannot control how much weight I actually lose and by when, so the pressure to lose it by a certain time is sometimes not helpful and it just leaves me stressed out if I do not. The priority is to eat well most of the time and to exercise regularly but I must not beat myself up if I do not do it perfectly.
