I have read a few blog posts on the topic of mental health and I decided to put some thought into how I take care of mine. I tend to get stressed and feel down often and I usually busy myself soo much that I do not take the time to deal with it. This time of the year is hard for me so it is important for me to work on this. Sometimes it is not that something major is going wrong but you just need to refresh your mind and get it on the right path. Now, by mental health I am not referring to any mental condition and I encourage anyone of you who may be facing something like that to seek help from a qualified Councillor, Therapist or any other suitable professional. With that being said, here are a few things that I am trying to do to take care of my mental health:
Time with God: Spending time with God on a daily basis is a guaranteed way to uplifting my spirit and to get a healthy outlook on things. Praying and reading the word is imperative in my life. There is nothing that can fulfil me and give me a sense of purpose than my relationship with God.
Tune Out: I live a somewhat busy lifestyle, most of that busyness is sometimes unnecessary, and it can leave me feeling overwhelmed. I tend to take on too much at the same time, so taking some time to just minimize noise, sit down and think over a cup of tea does me much good. It is also helpful to put my phone aside for some time in order to not waste time on it or fill my mind with things I do not need to fill it with.
Taking Care of Myself: I have noticed that not taking care of myself makes it easy for me to fall into the comparison trap and to feel bad about myself. Eating well and exercising actually makes me feel more confident because I know that taking care of myself in this way will only lead to a better me.
Create Pleasant Surroundings: A clean and tidy home with flowers around and candles lit just makes me instantly happy. It might be a bit of work to get it done but I makes me feel comfortable in my space once it is.
Do Things that Make Me Happy: Getting out of the house to get a cup of cappuccino at Starbucks (yes even in this heat) or going somewhere new also helps to cheer me up. It does not need to be costly but just getting out of the house is needed sometimes.
I hope that you are also working on taking care of your mental health and ensuring that you do not allow stress and worry to take over your life. Please share with me what works for you in the comment section below.
